loreal or covergirl!?

I twittered a while ago that I had picked up Covergirl’s New Lash Blast, and that I was going to go outside of my comfort zone and try a new mascara. Most women I know have a favorite mascara (mine is Loreal’s Carbon Black Voluminous). We rarely deviate from our old trusty… but, I’ve heard SO many women brag about this mascara, I felt the need to put it to the Jameson test!
My favorite mascara (Loreal”s Carbon Black Voluminous) is capable of making me look as if I am wearing falsies without me having to take the time to place individuals on (usually 15 minutes in the mirror that I don’t have with screaming twins).
So, I expected Covergirl’s Lash Blast to do at least what my old trusty does but with more perks…
Well, great news… it actually does give insanely LONG thick lashes, with only two coats… LOVE IT!!!!
My only issue with it, is that it seems to not want to come off. I really don’t like to have to scrub my eyes with makeup remover, because it risks losing all important lashes ( every little hair is like gold to me!)
So, all in all… I actually do love Lash Blast… but I am having a hard time abandoning my favey Voluminous by Loreal!

im gonna have to try it out Jenna! Loreal has such great products… but something new wont hurt once in a while!

I love your blogging by the way!!

    XoXoXoX

    Stormy Chantelle!

  3. Hot Makeup Says:

I liked lash blast as well but I believe the same it’s like waterproof. I have yet to try the loreal mascara.

  4. TanyaWhyte Says:

I use the Lash Blast Mascara as well, and I do agree, it does it’s job well, but as you said, it is a pain in the ass to get off, I hate when I see a few eyelashes come out after trying to get the mascara off.

I have never tried the Loreal Mascara…might be worth a try.

  5. Britini Says:

I totally agree w/ you!I’ve ALWAYS been a HUGE fan of l’oreal voluminous mascara! I also tried the Lash Blast & it WAS good but it was not L’oreal but the worst was it was like hell to take off.So good call on this one & i STILL love&favor my good old L’oreal!<33
p.s. Loving the blog idea jenna =]

  6. Christy Says:

I agree with you, it takes alot of time and effort to take off the Lash Blast so I tried Maybelline’s Stiletto Mascara and OMG, the best mascara I have ever used. It gives my lashes volume and length and I don’t even need false eyelashes. I definalty think you should try Stiletto’s, it’s also good for mom’s on the go.

I LOVE YA BLOGS AND I LOVE YA GIRL!!!

    *HUGS*

  7. Jane Says:

Jenna! Have you tried the new one from L’Oreal? Extra Volume Collagen? I love all L’Oreal products as well. Should give it a try though :)

  8. Sheramie Says:

    Jenna!
Here is a great fix for pesky eye makeup that is awesome when worn, then a nightmare to get off.

OLIVE OIL! Not only is it non-iritating, it actually melts away mascara and eyeliner! Not to mention, it’s a nice moisturizing treatment.

I wash my face like usual, apply a small amount of olive oil to fingers, and massage all around eye area, focusing on the heavy coated areas. after a good minute of gentle massage, you can either wipe off with a soft cloth or give one final wash to remove oil film!

    Sheramie

  9. Sheramie Says:

I have also tried a thousand mascaras…the best I’ve found (and I love waterproof ’cause others melt off of me!)

Mabelline Volum’ Express-has a great fine toothed brush

Revlon DoubleTwist-actually is great once you get used to the crazy looking wand (it has a fine toothed part AND a lash seperator in one)
    {this one does not seem to flake at all when curling after application!!}

Speaking of curling…a good way to get curl that stays is to curl after applying a coat of mascara…BUT use your hair dryer to heat up the curler a tad bit (test on back of hand each time you heat it!) …so it’s like a curling iron for your lashes!

Just heat and hold for 5 secs each crimp and try to curl in at least 2 sections (one towards the ends and one towards the root)…i do 3 to create a natural, non harsh bend in the lashes.

  10. MJ Says:

I love Makeup Forever mascara in Waterproof too…It does amazing length and volume. It’s $22 bucks at Sephora. Costly, but well worth it. I curl, apply, dry, then curl, apply.

  11. shorty Says:

I always use one mascara- Lancome Definicils mainly because my mom also uses it, and because she has experimented with other bands and had had allergic reactions to some- I’m scared to use other mascaras because I’m afraid of allergic reactions too or my lashes falling out (I am prone to a lot of allergies to foods already). Has anyone using the two mascaras Jenna recommends experienced any allergic reactions?

  12. Jillian Says:

Jenna! Thank you so much for the fantastic tips and best practices! You TRULY are an inspiration…

…I do have a question though, since you do your own hair and makeup, will you PLEASE give us a post on how you achieve your PERFECT dark smoky ‘bedroom’ eye???

You make women all over the world feel STRONG and POWERFUL! Thank you so much for being YOU! xoxoxo

  13. Nancy Says:

    Hi Jenna!

I had the exact same issue with Lash Blast & lost a couple of lashes trying to get it off! So while I love what it did for my lashes, I stopped using it because of it refusal to come off at night. I’m still in search of the perfect mascara, you mentioned L’Oreal’s Carbon Black Voluminous, I just may give it a try.

  14. Emelie Says:

Hmm I have also always used Loreal”s Carbon Black Voluminous but awhile ago I changes my mascara to Imju Fiberwig which is a mascara from Japan and its amazning. The lashes gets really long and its soo easy to remove, all you need is lukewarm water. I want to try Lash Blast though but I dont think I can find it in Sweden.

  15. Beth Says:

I use Lash Blast too, and also have that problem of it NOT COMING OFF at the end of the day… haven’t really found a solution to that problem yet, (other than Vaseline — but Vaseline is really sticky and not so fun on the face).

Love the blog!! Keep it up!!

  16. Jamie Says:

I am also on the Lash Blast band wagon but I find it to take awhile to dry and its a little sticky until it does. I normally put on one coat and let it dry and curl and add a second coat. It makes it hard to use ONLY the lash blast. My fave is Bad Gal Lash by Benefit. I have almost non existant lashes so I put a thin layer of whats left in my bad gal tube… which is almost nothing… and then I layer the Lash Blast over the top I get amazing volume and length!

  17. Jamie Says:

    Jenna,
My favorite mascara is The Loreal Volumious In Carbon Black too…I always try new mascaras….and teturn to it every time..it is the best!
Loving the new blog by the way…fabulous!
    In Peace,
    Jamie

  18. Suzanne Says:

Hey girl. I tried this product when it first came out too. I was a die hard for Maybelline Stilletto lashes and I loved it. But I really like this product too. However, I have found another Maybelline product that I really love. It is called Colossal Volume Express. Love it! It works well for me because I love to define my eyes very well. It just rocks! I don’t like the fact that I have to use an eye makeup remover that is oily but it is the only one that gets it off.

  19. Rachel Brown Says:

    Jenna,

We sell this product called Latisse at my work. There are lots of commercials for it (Brooke Shields is the spokesperson) so maybe you have already heard of it but if not…..you should get some! IT IS AMAZING!
I used it two weeks and had to stop because my lashes were getting TOO long!
It makes them darker, fuller, and LONGER.
Now I only have to do one coat of mascara and it looks like I have serious false lashes on….its hot!

    Check it out!
    -Rachel

  20. Nicole Says:

I use Lash Blast and I think I have used it since it came out. By far my favorite mascara.

  21. sally Says:

loreal voluminous is my absolute favourite i have tried so many others and i have always gone back to that masacara, i love love it

  22. Krystal Says:

I have found with water proof mascara the best thing i have used is clearasil daily face scrub…. i don’t know what is does but it makes all of my makeup come off perfectly,(including waterproof mascaras) and i NEVER have to scrub….. :) LOVE the blogging keep it up :)

    Krystal*
    xoxo

  23. Jerseymom27 Says:

I have tried both…by far my favorite is L’Oreal carbon black voluminous. I found it actually kind of a struggle to use the lash blast because the handle is much fatter than Im used too.

Love, love, Love your blogging by the way Jenna!!!

  24. Jenni Says:

I was very surprised when I read your blog because I use both! I use the Voluminous Carbon Black first, which makes my lashes really thick, then I use the LashBlast because it seperates my lashes and adds length. Also, LasBlast keeps the Voluminous from flaking off into my eyes.

  25. Julianne Says:

    Hey Jenna!

Try using baby oil to remove the old mascara.. that’s what I do and I don’t have to scrub.. I just use a cotton ball with some baby oil on it and wipe my lashes. Even if it doesn’t take it all off right away, it losens the mascara so when I wash the baby oil off the rest of the mascara comes off too.

    Hope this helps!!
    Julianne

  26. Kerry Says:

    Love the lash blast! =)

  27. Ashley Steel Says:

I will have to try those. My favorite lately has been Dior DiorShow in WaterProof Black. I really love it but I had the same issue with you, it would NOT come off and I lost a lot of my natural lashes.

When I went to the beauty supply store to get a new mascara, they insisted I try the Shiseido eye makeup remover instead. OMG WOW it honestly takes the most insane waterproof anything right off, I also use the makeup forever eyeliner waterproof… So there is always a little left on unless I use this remover.

Its this one http://www.sca.shiseido.com/catalog/index.cfm?product=332 — If you’re interested it is WELL WORTH a try but I definitely know how it is to find a product you love already. I am never totally sold on trying something new. For me I use the waterproof for all my shoots and cam shows cause being under the hot lights, it gets warm. Even with AC and fans… the Shiseido has been an absolute lifesaver for me.

Hope you are having a gorgeous day with those gorgeous kids of yours. Much love sweetie.

    Ashley Steel

  28. Sarah Says:

i have the same issue with this product, i still love it. i’ve had success with the non-waterproof & it comes off really well with makeup remover, but stays on otherwise.

  29. Prettyinpink Says:

I recommend trying baby oil for removing ANY type of mascara. It works great, it’s cheap and gentle on your lashes!

  30. Stacy Says:

I swear by loreal’s carbon black. I’ve used it for at least 5 years now. My only beef with it is that over time, say a month or so it gets really clumpy. I don’t if it’s because I life in a humid climate, or what, but after about 3 weeks it’s just impossible to use. I don’t I also use this insane eye liner, it’s by physican’s formula, and it’s called eye definer felt tip marker. I get it ultra black, I never leave the house without my cat eyes, but its super gentle, and it’s like a little sharpie. I get perfect cat eyes in like 10 secs.

  31. Vanessa Says:

Let me start off and say that I absolutely adore you… you actually helped spice up AND save my marriage at one point in time so my hubby and I are complety faithful to your work and your work only!!!

I’m so glad you started this blog… I’ve tried nearly every mascara in the market to help me get the long thick lashes I’ve always longed for but I’d never the Loreal… I’m picking it up tomorrow!!! I just read all your entries and they’re awesome… keep em coming cupcake… I’m loving the tips!!!

  32. elle Says:

“too faced” brand has eye make up remover for their “lash injection” mascara. you should use that to take off eye make up, i have the same problem with always worrying my eye lashes are going to come off while taking my mascara off because i use so much but this stuff really works well, you can get it at sephora.

  33. zen Says:

The very best eye makeup remover is Johnson’s baby shampoo…it takes very little effort..simply dab a wet Q-tip into it, and gently massage into lashes, then take a damp flat cotton pad, and wipe clean. I use Carbon black by Lloreal, and it’s the only way to go…dramatic and sexy!

  34. Sandee Says:

really? i thought lash blash was weak. i was trying to find a cheaper alternative to my favorite (Diorshow by Christian Dior) but i’ve yet to find anything at either a drugstore or department store that comes close to Dior!

  35. Elle Kane Says:

I use lash blast and i have to scrub for a long time to get it all the way off…and then i wake up with raccoon eyes because it didn’t all actually come off. I don’t wear make up much so its okay. my favorite was always bobbi brown’s everything. it was great and gave me great lashes after i used a curler

  36. H20Queen Says:

I skeptically tried Lash blast a few months ago, since my mascara I had was letting me down.

All I can say is WOW! I am totally in love…it doesnt make my lashes look like tarantula legs and it stays put.

I agree that it can be a chore (using eye makeup remover) to take it off…but as the adage goes, “Beauty is Pain”…so I go through the extra time to use a special remover. Hell, it makes my lashes look fabulous, so it makes it totally worth it.

I also purchased the Lash Blast sparkly mascara in black..great for evening looks! :) (It’s in the pink bottle, instead of the orange one)

  37. Eva Sandoval Says:

My friend Tanya got me hooked on L’Oreal voluminous mascara and like you Im SOO attached to it! I have long lashes so when I wear this mascara most people think I have fake lashes on!!

Im buying everything youre posting blogs about! lol Ive bought the rollers, buying the hairspray and antyhing else you blog about ha haha

I LOVE Reading your blogs, Thanks for sharing all your beauty secrets!! Youre Awesome XO

    Eva

  38. Jamia Says:

I have to say that lately my favorite mascara is Stiletto by Maybelline! It accentuates my already long lashes and makes them POP with a semi-shine…I’ll try these two soon!!!

  39. Vanessa Says:

    Jenna,
Like you I am a loyal fan of Voluminous, then I fell in love with LashBlast…now I am LOVING Lash Stiletto by Maybelline, try it!

  40. Jamie Says:

I LOVE L’Oreals Voluminous line. I have tried CG as well and haven’t had any luck with it. I honestly think you should try Avon’s Supercurlacious mascara that just came out a couple weeks ago. It gives the best definition, volume, and holds all day. It’s honestly right up there with the Voluminous (which I have been using for YEARS now). It’s worth a try and ya never know, it might be your new Holy Grail mascara!

  41. Jaime Miller Says:

I love lash blast too :) That’s what I use. You are right though, I have a hard time getting it off too. Do you use the waterproof one? I wonder if the regular is easier to remove?

I haven’t tried Loreals Voluminous yet…. I will have to check it out.

  42. Paola Says:

    HI Jenna!

I know how you feel about mascara. It’s like THE essential part of my make-up. If I’m too rushed for time i just usually put on some concealer, mineral powder and mascara. My favorite one is Bad Gal Lash by Benefit. They now have the waterproof kind. It is THE BEST!!! I’ve been using it for like 5 years now and have never switched! So if you ever come across it, don’t think twice about trying it out!!!

    :)

ps, GREAT BLOG! Greetings from Sunny Puerto Rico!

  43. Stephanie Says:

    Jenna,
I love that you’ve started blogging. I love CG lash blast in their tinted colors. It comes in a red tube vs. an orange one. The eye makeup remover I use is Sephora’s eye makeup remover. It’s amazing and a huge bottle is only $12. Its comperable to Lancome’s eye makeup remover. You’re amazing and happy blogging!
    -Stephanie

  44. Oblio Says:

Hi Jenna, I totally agree with the whole not being able to get it off… that’s a deff NO GO! What I have been doing lately is using a black mascara and then topping it with a blue one. IDK why but this somehow makes my eyes look much bigger! I love it :-)

I use Givenchy, extension black and top it off with Benefits Bad gal blue

    <3 Amie

  45. sarah57 Says:

I hope you blog about your nails!!! I love them… I copied the grey and black tips!! So cute… oh btw i use lash blast its been my fav but i dont have a problem of it coming off.

  46. Jane Says:

I still think you should try Benefits Bad Gal Lash. I love the brush, and it’s never flaky. Which, btw, we all hate that. Dior has some great mascara as does Estee Lauder, but those are a little more pricey. I’ve tried them all, too. Stick w/ what you love. But, you should try the Bad Gal Lash, you will be running to Sephora for it the next time you need mascara. xoxo!

  47. cgalindo2 Says:

If you loved lash blast then I know you’ll love Maybellines’ Collasal. It goes on nice and washes off really easily, my friend introduced me to it and that’s all I use now. Let me know how you like it if you try it=)

  48. oc_mommy Says:

I am loving the lash blast too! But I do have to say my ultimate fave is Dior Show I have never found anything to beat it!…oh and a tip for taking off the mascara is vaseline…I use it everynite as a makeup remover and it works great =)

My husband thinks is ridiculous that I buy $25 mascara (DiorSHow) I will have to give the Carbon Black a try.
Do you use any anti-wrinkle creams…..I discovered Christian Dior XP face cream 4 years ago & love it! It is expensive but I have no wrinkles on my face! IT rocks!

  53. jimmy Says:

THANKS! You guys do a great blog, and have some great contests. Keep up the good work.

  54. janelle Says:

    Jenna,
You should try the Cover Girl Lash Exact. It’s in the purple tube. I get the non-water proof and it comes off very easily when I wash my face and does not run or flake at all throughout the day. I have never in my life gotten so many compliments on my eye lashes. It truly looks like I am wearing false lashes! I literally get ATLEAST 1 or 2 compliments a week on my lashes!!! I swear by this stuff!!!! Oh and it doesn’t clump like I found the Lash Blast to.

  55. tammy Says:

just wanted to say thanks for the mascara tip. i have been searching for something as good as voluminous for years and none compare. i actually love that the CG stays on longer!! i love them both and even use em together!! thanks so much! u rock JJ

  56. Marie Says:

I use Loreal Double extension mascara, with the white primer on one side and the black mascara in the other and I LOOOVVVEEE ITTTTT!! And it’s sooo easy to take off. Just splash your face with warm water for awhile and the mascara slides off your lashes like extensions. Just pull GENTLY on them and viola’, no more mascara. Super easy.

  57. Tara Widner Says:

I bought a tube of Lash Blast..Used it today for the first time. My bottom lashes are short and sparce. This was great!! Thanks for the beauty tips Jenna!

  58. Kim Says:

My fave mascara is L’Oreal Telescopic in Carbon Black. I have tried every mascara out there, from Cover Girl to Dior and this is the BEST!!!

But…you have me curious to try the Voluminous now! LOL

  62. PenelopeGutierre Says:

Thats cool. I agree, that was a good post! but i m not agree to you to.
it is very difficult to follow them, well according to me, one should try resveratrol aging.
Yes its possible to do naturaly, but it will surely help the casue lot.
You will find here a nice collection of free resveratrol reviews

  63. Melanie Says:

    Hi Jenna!!!,

just a quick tip of mine that has saved me for the last 10 years! I wear the lashblast mascara and wear the waterproof one…so theres no way of running with my watery eyes. The BEST makeup remover to use is Avon moisture effective eye makeup remover. its like a dollar a bottle too. make sure its the cream not the liquid though. it takes any stubborn eye makeup off without loosing precious lashes or irrate eyes. I buy like 20 at a time. I used it through my entire modeling career and swear by the stuff! Hope that helps!
